MAYOR JADA D. CURRY CONTINUES TO PROPEL LYNWOOD

INTO A TREMENDOUS DESTINATION POINT OF THE SOUTHLAND

Hundreds of Millions of dollars in economic development accomplished by

Mayor Curry and the Lynwood Village Board of Trustees

(Lynwood, Illinois)- Many Journalists, business leaders, and residents are speaking boldly to the resurgence and continued development of Lynwood, Illinois. Once considered simply as a drive through community, it has now propelled into a phenomenal destination point for southland residents. From its beautiful housing stock to the growing economic base; Lynwood is experiencing a five-year growth of prosperity and stability.

At the core of this newfound success is Lynwood’s powerful and profound mayor, Jada D. Curry. Under Mayor Curry’s leadership, she has successfully coalesced a now unified Village Board of Trustees who have assisted her in numerous accomplishments throughout the six-mile community.

Upon being elected in 2021, Mayor Curry presented to the Village of Lynwood a vision inclusive of economic growth, business retention and enhanced public safety. She encouraged the Village Trustees to not only embrace her vision, but to also engage themselves in various aspects of the town to create a programmatic thrust in achieving their collective mission of transitioning Lynwood into a place of destination and purpose.

During her first term, Mayor Curry immediately transitioned herself into a full time mayor by wearing dual hats throughout the village as a much-needed economic development leader as well as using her decades of experience in Human Resources to improve the administrative services of the Village. She ushered in a greater form of diversity by hiring minority professionals to head various departments throughout the government. In fact. She appointed the very first African American Police and Fire Chiefs respectively to the Village of Lynwood.

One of the many inherited challenges Mayor Curry endured was the lack of credible eateries and retail development. Well, it didn’t take long for her to attract an all-new Dunkin Donuts, Cannabis dispensary, a Dollar General, a convenience store that offers fresh produce, and several new small businesses that have given residents a new local option in their shopping weekly endeavors.

These accomplishments were key in her 2025 re-election campaign that led to a massive victory. The vast majority of voters expressed their appreciation not only in the super majority of votes, but also by the countless expressions of appreciation, continued support, and volunteerism. There is now a significant pride in Lynwood spirit that can be felt in every sector of the town.

Mayor Curry and the Village Board have continued their quest for economic prosperity by delivering more points of economic growth and stability. Much of the accomplishments include but are not limited to funding for infrastructure, facilities, resiliency, parks,

transportation, water affordability, and other community improvements such as:

· $2.3 million for Climate Resiliency: Pump and lift station improvements and feasibility study.

· $1 million for Discretionary Grant: Grant funding identified for discretionary purposes, used to cover Police Department payroll.

· $950,000 for Glenwood-Dyer Sewer Project: Sewer infrastructure investment.

· $350,000 for Construction Improvements: Design and engineering, electrical work, equipment, materials and labor, paving, plumbing, construction management, and related improvements.

· $250,000 for Village Facility Improvements: Will go to bid for design for L building Community Center improvements, including electrical, roofing, paving, HVAC, ventilation, mechanical systems, flooring, and related facility improvements.

· $250,000 for Cook County Water Affordability: Currently designing and building out a new ERP Building system project supporting water affordability.

· $150,000 for Walk and Bike Paths: Funding supporting pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure.

· $100,000 for Lakeview Park: Investment in Lakeview Park new park equipment installed.

· $100,000 for Fire Department and Public Works Repairs: Building repairs involving Fire Station #1, Liberty Memorial Park, Public Works, and Lakeview Park facilities.

“Mayor Curry has been the breath of fresh air that has truly delivered a sense of pride, stability, and enormous enthusiasm to the residents of Lynwood. Just to drive through the community and witness the various developments and improvements is quite exciting. I am extremely proud of Mayor Curry and the Village Board of Trustees for their undying support of the village.” says Cook County Commissioner Dr. Kisha E. McCaskill.

Illinois State Representative Thaddeus Jones (29th District) adds, “Mayor Curry is clearly Lynwood’s biggest cheerleader and top advocate. There is not a week that goes by when the mayor isn’t calling me advocating for more state funding for Lynwood. I’m always willing to assist in the resurgence of Lynwood under her leadership. The best is yet to come.”

Mayor Curry has achieved much while also serving in two other particularly important southland roles. She currently serves as the President of the South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association as well as the Chairwoman of the Southland Regional Mayoral Black Caucus. She has become a regional leader in these additional posts, often speaking before large and small audiences, pushing for much needed funding and resources for the entire southland.

The challenging work produced by Mayor Curry and her team of Trustees has garnered the respect and admiration of leaders throughout Illinois. Only one can imagine what’s next for the thriving town of Lynwood.
